I’m obsessed with wax warmers and wax melts. I first got hooked on them when my husband and I lived with my mother-in-law a few years ago. I had warmers in every room, with specific smells for different times of year! I couldn’t get enough!

Unfortunately, most wax cubes contain artificial fragrances and paraffin wax! When heated, paraffin wax releases formaldehyde, benzene, acroleine (and more) into the air, all of which have been proven to increase the risk of cancer.

Supposedly wax cubes are better than candles, and some brands are free of all the nasty, toxic chemicals.

Regardless, I’ve always known that one day I’d probably cut back on buying wax cubes from the store. If not for our health, for our budget! I have a hard time letting go of things that make my home smell good.

Using all natural homemade cleaners? No problem! No more paper towels? Don’t really miss ’em.

Laundry detergent? Wax cubes? Anything labeled “fresh linen scent”? Oh no. No, no, no. I can’t seem to let those things go, dangit.

Thankfully, there are several ways to naturally make your home smell wonderful, from simmer pots to homemade candles. And, natural wax cubes!

I can’t personally say that I’ll never pick up a pack of fresh linen wax melts from the store again, but I do love making our own household products. I always joke that I’m a part-time hippie.

And these do smell really good! In a natural, earthy kind of way. You don’t feel like you’re being smacked in the face with a line-dried white cotton towel, but it’s nice, especially when you have quality essential oils. There’s certainly no shortage of floral and citrus scents!

I know I’m not doing a good job convincing you to switch to homemade wax melts, but that’s only because I’m no expert. I don’t want to claim that using store-bought melts will give you cancer when I really have no idea. There are enough crunchy bloggers out there that can scare you into tossing them all out.

I’m just here to share my recipe for those of you that want to give it a try! They smell great, they’re easy to make, and they make great gifts! And they’ll save you a ton of money if you buy wax in bulk!

How To Make Homemade Wax Melts

1. In a double boiler, melt down the beeswax (and coconut oil if you’re using it).

2. Once it’s fully melted, take the mixture off of the heat and allow to cool for a couple of minutes.

3. Stir in the essential oils.

4. Pour mixture into silicone molds.

5. If you’re adding dried flowers, do so now!

6. Allow to cool fully before using.
