If you’re looking for a delicious and easy appetizer, or a fast dinner idea, look no further!

These hot ham and cheese sliders are made in the oven in under 20 minutes, and make for the perfect addition to your game day spread.

My recipe for ham and cheese sliders is something I’ve held on to for a few years now, and just kept forgetting to share. I’ve made them a variety of different ways, but this is the classic, best recipe.

We actually eat these for dinner pretty frequently, because I’m so busy and I know for sure the kids will eat them every time.

Flavor ideas and variations:

  • I love to add sliced gherkin pickles to mine, but you can skip them! They’re delicious with and without.
  • Use poppy seed hawaiin rolls.
  • Add a brown sugar glaze for a sweeter flavor. Ham and cheese sliders with brown sugar are always a hit with kids.
  • Eat them cold! They’re just as delicious as cold sandwiches for a beach trip or field trip.
  • Use swiss cheese instead of provolone.

I love making these during the week when I want something yummy, and I’m trying to resist ordering food.

They’re honestly everything I love, wrapped up into one meal. Sweet, salty, a little spicy, and tangy too!

FAQs about ham and cheese sliders

I often pair them with some chips. If we’re having it for dinner, I like to add some fruit for my toddlers, and a vegetable, like broccoli. It already has a bit of protein, and a carb, so opting for a vegetable or fruit is usually what I’d recommend.

I’ve never had a problem with baked ham and cheese sliders going soggy, but I would say if they don’t hold in the fridge well for you, toast them in the oven for a couple of minutes again.

Absolutely! I do it all the time. Reheat in the oven for the best results, but the microwave works too. Heat until the cheese melts and serve immediately.

How to Make Ham and Cheese Sliders

Just a few ingredients

  • 12 pack of Kings Hawaiin Rolls
  • 3/4 lb Deli Ham
  • 12 Slices of Provolone Cheese
  • 1 stick of Salted Butter, Melted
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
  • Gherkin Pickles, Sliced

Step 1: Slice the Hawaiin rolls in half and spread condiments

Slice the entire sheet of Hawaiin rolls in half, and spread the mayonnaise and dijon mustard on the bottom half.

You’ll want to go ahead and do all of this directly on the sheet pan.

Step 2: Layer the ham on the rolls

Layer the ham directly onto the bottom half of the Hawaiin rolls.

Step 3: Layer the provolone cheese

Swiss cheese is also super delicious on ham, but provolone has a milder flavor, making for a better option for my family with little kids.

Step 4: Slice and layer the gherkin pickles

Slice them however you like, or omit them entirely if you don’t care for pickles. My family loves them, and they make a great addition to these sliders, even when they’re served cold.

Step 5: Melt the butter and mix in Italian seasoning

In a bowl, microwave the butter and mix in the Italian seasoning for a perfect butter spread.

With a basting brush, gently brush the melted butter on the top of the rolls, pouring the excess over the middle.

Step 6: Bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes

Bake them for about 15 minutes, or until they’re done to your likeness. I have seen other people cover them with foil afterwards, but I have always skipped that step and never had any issues with drying out or being warm enough.
